Why Choose Luxury Rehab?

When you make the important decision to seek treatment, you want to make sure the environment supports your goals. For many people, a luxury rehab center ticks all the boxes.

You get customized service, including a personalized treatment and therapeutic plan. You’re provided with some of the highest quality medical care and one-on-one medical consults. You often get a suite of holistic services to choose from, including massage therapy, acupuncture, yoga classes, and outdoor meditation sessions.

You’re in a secluded center far removed from your daily life —  allowing you to truly focus on gaining long-lasting skills to overcome your drug or alcohol addiction.

Most importantly, you’re surrounded by a caring staff who won’t judge you for your special requests, or your past behavior. They’ll honor your pain and help you move toward resolving your addiction.

Will Luxury Rehab Work For Me?

Addiction recovery is hard. If you’re shopping for a rehab, then it’s likely your life has been hard for some time, too. The last thing you need right now is to go to an overcrowded rehab center with bad food and scratchy bedsheets.

When someone is seeking a luxury rehab center, it’s because they have high standards of living. If you are used to a certain lifestyle, why should you sacrifice? If you have support at home with beautiful, nutritious meals and regular massages, a luxury rehab can continue offering you that level of support.

That level of support includes not just physical comforts like your favorite brand of sparkling water. At a luxury rehab, the staff will understand where you come from. They won’t be judging you for how you live your life everyday. They want what’s best for you. They’re happy to meet your requests.

There’s a difference, though, between keeping up a high standard of living, and trying to control every outside circumstance to avoid discomfort. The recovery program you choose should help you understand that crucial difference. If you can’t be happy unless you get everything you want, that points to underlying issues that likely have been fueling your addiction (and ruining your relationships).

A great recovery program will tell you the truth. They’ll help you sort out what truly serves your happiness, and what keeps you in an addictive cycle.

What Are the Benefits of Luxury Addiction Treatment Programs?

In luxury rehab centers, your treatment program will be personally tailored to you. You get more customized services with a high level of personal attention.

Medical professionals will facilitate and manage your luxury detox process, ensuring minimal discomfort and the utmost safety.

You’ll have access to alternative therapies, that focus on addressing the root cause of your addiction. By utilizing these methods, you’re able to learn actionable self-regulation skills you can use for the rest of your life.

You can even meet with highly trained experts in a variety of fields. For example, to explore how your diet affects your gut biome and immune system, you could meet with a registered dietician. You’ll then receive personalized assessments of nutritional deficiencies brought on by your substance use disorders, along with a specific nutritional plan to get your health back on track.

That nutritional plan will be implemented by a professional chef, who prepares delicious meals and snacks that will help your body heal.

All the while, staff body workers will offer you relaxing, restorative massages. You’ll receive bespoke acupuncture treatments that help with cravings.

Add together all these factors, and you have a strong foundation for achieving change and sobriety.

What to Expect with Luxury Substance Abuse Treatment

Many people who can afford a luxury rehab have been unfairly judged by others for their privilege.  Some have even been pigeonholed as entitled, spoiled people who only care about themselves. This is far from the truth. Most people with wealth are extremely generous and they care deeply about others.

Addiction can be even harder on you when you come from money. “I have nothing to complain about; I have everything!” goes the negative thinking. This is a great misunderstanding. Heartbreak, anxiety, loneliness, and trauma can happen to anyone. Just because you didn’t march off to war and come back with PTSD doesn’t mean that your pain should be minimized. You matter, too.

In a luxury treatment center, the staff understands this. They know you’re doing the best you can, and they don’t judge you for your background or the habits you’ve created.  They’ll honor your wounds and guide you in becoming more accepting of your unique way of thinking. All the while, they’ll be working with you to learn new, healthier ways to move forward.

Are All Luxury Inpatient Rehab Programs the Same?

In most cases in life, when you spend more money on services, it means higher quality. But some luxury rehab programs rely on outdated modalities for treating addictions. So even if they deliver these services very skillfully, the results may not be as effective as programs that draw from state of the art treatment modalities.

And unfortunately, some luxury rehab programs focus more on the “luxury” than the “rehab”. A website can easily be filled with dazzling photographs of stylish rooms and claims of executive treatment, but the solid heart and soul of a program doesn’t always show up in pictures or words.

How will this program go about resolving your addictive behaviors? That’s the million-dollar question to ask.

To understand the problem clearly, it’s important to know this:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, the classic rehab modality, often isn’t enough. Talking about your problems and seeing the patterns you are stuck in often won’t change your long-term behavior. Think of it like this: can you learn to ride a bicycle just by talking about it?

trees in field

forest of tall trees

No, you need to practice new responses to the things that trigger you. This new response creates a new neural pathway in your brain, and a new habit in the reflex actions of your body.

In our bicycle-riding analogy, you learn to stay in balance through slow, steady practice. Each success brings tremendous relief from anxiety, and contributes to greater and greater skill.

So what kinds of therapy should you look for? Well, the more hands-on, the better. Conscious Breathing, Mindful Inquiry, Emotional Fluidity Techniques and Experiential Engagement Therapy are some examples of active, skill-building techniques.

A luxury center that relies on one main modality won’t be nearly as effective as a program offering a wide range of experiential approaches. It’s the experiences that provide you with the skills you’ll need to resolve your addiction, and it’s these skills that you’ll take with you back into the world.

How Long Does Inpatient Rehabilitation Last?

The standard across the industry is 30 days; however, some people feel 30 days is not enough time to heal their wounds. In this case, a person may decide on a 60- or 90-day treatment option.

Regardless of your length of treatment, a well-established luxury program will have an aftercare program in place to help you transition back to your life.

Inpatient vs. Outpatient Rehab Programs

When looking into substance abuse treatment options, you may come across some luxury outpatient programs. The idea of outpatient treatment can be tempting — you get to stay at home and enjoy your own bed while you go to several therapy sessions throughout your week.

But be warned: outpatient treatment is typically in place to help someone who has already completed rehab, and is transitioning back to their life. They are not built to help someone overcome a full-fledged addiction.

Why? Because you’re still in the same environment that bred your addiction in the first place.

You’re still going to be invited to gatherings where your friends are doing party drugs or drinking for hours on end. You’re still going to be dealing with the relationships that are becoming more and more strained from your drug abuse. You’ll still be working and trying to juggle the stress that comes from it.

To fully change your addictive behaviors, you need to remove yourself from your normal environment, even if it’s only for 30 days. Inpatient treatment allows you to take a break from your life’s triggers and fully commit your energy towards healing.

Should I Travel for Luxury Addiction Treatment?

You’ll likely be in treatment for a full month. This makes the location of your luxury rehab center crucial. The outdoor environment will be part of your living situation, so why not make it beautiful?

The best centers are usually located in the most healing environments. This is extremely soothing to the nervous system. Being surrounded by nature, and feeling deeply connected to trees and mountains and water, will make it much easier to access a calm and peaceful state inside yourself.

Breathing in fresh air, hearing the beautiful sounds of nature, being far from traffic and crowds: this will help you release anxiety and stress, and reconnect with your core self.

Part of detox is getting some distance from our relationships and daily habits.

Learning to connect with nature is a bridge to our original innocence, to the natural state of being we were born with. Time in nature helps us reprioritize our fast paced life, and put things back into perspective.

Is Luxury Rehab Just a Spa Getaway?

Many people seeking recovery fear that a luxury rehab will be “rehab-light”, a place where you go to get pampered and stay sober for thirty days, but don’t learn useful ways to overcome your addiction.

This fear may be amplified by family when you tell them you want to go to a luxury rehab center. It’s very ingrained in society that detox and recovery should be hard if it’s going to work. You should be going to jail, not a five-star spa!

But consider this perspective: being well nurtured is an essential component of healing. It’s not just about eliminating negatives; it’s also about adding positives.

A luxury rehab can help soothe your nervous system, help you feel safe and cared for, and provide the nurturing services and foods that support sobriety.

This doesn’t have to be either/or. Why not include every possible advantage if your goal is full recovery?

Who Will Be With Me in Luxury Rehab?

Most luxury rehabs will have high-functioning people like yourself, who have an ongoing struggle with drugs or alcohol, but have built successful lives for themselves. These are not unlike the people you already know from your work and social circles.

One advantage of a luxury rehab center is that it will be more exclusive, because it’s more expensive. Some people who are seeking treatment enjoy the random mix of people at an everyday public AA meeting – but it can be challenging to live in close quarters for weeks on end with people who don’t share your standards of living. A luxury rehab will sort that out for you.

Some rehab programs are filled with young people who are only attending because their parents are pressuring them. Or with people who are there by court order. Rarely do these folks end up in luxury rehab.

That said, the best programs do have a mix of different ages. This diversity provides a wide range of perspectives, from people who will remind you of your younger self, and others who will show you what might happen in your future if you don’t change course. Like the ghosts of Christmas past and future in A Christmas Carol, this can support a great change in consciousness.

The best social environments for recovery will stretch you, but not too far. The high standards of a luxury rehab ensure that you’ll be able to relate to your fellow journeyers, and feel socially at ease with them. They won’t be judging you for indulging your creature comforts.

And while you’re enjoying your favorite sparkling water, you’ll also have the advantage of learning from their various life stages and relatable experiences.

Non 12 Step Approach

We don’t focus on your past indiscretions or call you an addict. We focus on helping you uncover the root cause of your addiction, and teaching you realistic, practical skills to change your behavior for the better.

With a combination of individual and group therapy sessions, we ensure that the majority of your day is spent in a therapeutically-progressive activity. We use our proprietary, evidence-based methodology, Experiential Engagement Therapy, to help you walk through your anxiety in real-time — emerging on the other side as a stronger, more confident person.

A Flexible Schedule to Do Your Work...

Many traditional rehab facilities will take away your computer and phone on your first day. At our luxury treatment center, this isn’t the case.

We understand that our clients are often professionals who need access to their laptops and email. While the focus of your program remains on healing your addiction, your schedule can be customized around an important meeting, or you can schedule a set time when you respond to emails.

As an example, we often give professionals and executives time in the morning (before sessions) to accomplish any work duties.

… And Stay in Touch with Loved Ones

Say you don’t want to do any work while you’re in treatment, but you do want to check in with your spouse or kids daily. We will happily work with you to make sure you connect with your loved ones as often as you need.

Maybe you want to talk to your kids every day when they get home from school. Due to our customized care, we can make sure you have the space to call, Facetime, or Zoom however you prefer to connect.

The opportunity to stay connected with family members and friends throughout a month-long stay can make all the difference in keeping you motivated and committed to your treatment.

What Happens After Rehab?

So you’ve spent 30 days (or more) with us, and feel confident about going home and trying out the skills you’ve learned. (Yay!)

However, we know you may need some help along the way, especially as you’re transitioning back into your life (and your life’s triggers).

We offer an aftercare package where you can keep working with the same therapists you worked with while at our program. They’ll help you help work through any anxiety and other feelings that are coming up for you, as well as incorporate your newfound skills into your long-term routine.

How Much Does Luxury Rehab Cost?

The cost of a luxury drug and alcohol rehab depends on the specific program.

Due to the personalization, services, amenities, and seclusion offered at a luxury based-treatment program, there is naturally a higher price point than traditional treatment facilities.

While the price is dependent on the specific facility, luxury rehabs start at roughly $30,000 for a 30-day stay and go up to $100,000.

While this may seem like a lot to some people, it helps to put the cost in perspective. How much did you spend on your last car? Are you willing to spend that amount on your life?

Why Is Luxury Rehab Expensive?

There are many more costs associated with running a luxury rehab program than a traditional program, including:

  • Highly-trained staff — with the number of services being provided, a luxury program often needs to hire specialized experts in a variety of areas, including: acupuncturists, massage therapists, personal chefs, fitness trainers, yoga instructors, and more.
  • Relaxing, exclusive setting — many of the most beautiful places in the world are also the most expensive places in the world. Paradise and a higher price often go hand-in-hand.
  • Fewer clients — since luxury rehabs don’t put five or six people in a room (like some traditional rehabs do), they’re limited to the number of clients they can take. This then increases the cost for the clients that do come in.

A Day in Luxury Rehab: Lori's Story

Lori’s heart is racing as she stands at the baggage claim.

Did I pick the right place? Am I really ready for this?

A smiling man waves at Lori, and she recognizes him as one of the rehab’s staff members.

Just as the staff member is pulling from the curb, Lori exclaims, “Wait! I need something from my bag.”

He patiently pulls back over. Lori starts digging through her suitcase in the trunk. Before she knows it, it’s been fifteen minutes.

She glances over at the staff member, and he smiles. But it doesn’t seem like that fake smile that resort workers always slap on. It’s oddly genuine.

She opens a cosmetic bag and voila! “Got it!” she triumphantly says, holding up the lipstick tube.

Here it comes. “That was all for lipstick?” he’ll ask.

But he doesn’t ask that. Actually, he doesn’t seem bothered at all.

Before settling in, Lori is greeted by the medical director, who walks Lori through her detox protocol. He patiently sits and asks Lori extensively about her medical history and answers the many questions she has. Altogether, they sit with each other for over an hour.

After the doctor leaves, Lori feels her stomach rumble. She peeks out her door and asks a staff member if she can have a snack.

“Actually,” Lori says, “a smoothie sounds really good. Actually a blueberry and dragonfruit smoothie would be great. Oh maybe some acai too. And it needs to have oat milk — I don’t do regular milk.”

The staff member says she’ll speak with the chef and walks toward the kitchen.

Huh. No eye roll at ‘oat milk’. That’s new.

The next day, Lori goes to a group therapy session. As she sits down, her chair makes an unpleasant squeak. She shrugs it off and listens to the therapist.

As the therapist is speaking, the chair keeps squeaking.

Finally Lori shouts, “Can someone get me a different chair!”

The therapist looks back at her kindly, pausing a moment before responding, “Why, Lori?”

Lori’s voice cracks with anger. “Can you not hear it? It’s squeaking like crazy!”

“Yes, you’re absolutely right, that chair is squeaking. I wonder why it bothers you so much, though. You seem very upset.”

“Because it’s incredibly distracting!”

The therapist smiles and replies calmly, “You know, sometimes the way we react to everyday things, like a chair squeaking, can reveal deeper levels of what’s really going on for us. In fact, our reactions can be clues to helping us understand ourselves better. I invite you to consider this possibility for a few minutes. Right now, I’m going to talk to Joe here, so you can see this from another angle. Can you sit with that squeaky chair and see what else comes up for you?”

The therapist turns to another client. “Joe, when have you noticed yourself get triggered by a frustrating everyday event, and tapped into more anger than the situation seemed to warrant?”

Lori is dumbfounded.

Are they really okay with my outburst? The therapist didn’t even seem mad. My husband would have screamed at me to stop making a fuss.

After class, Lori sticks around to speak with the therapist. “I wanted to apologize for my chair freak out. That’s just something I tend to do,” Lori says.

“No need to apologize, Lori. I’m here to help you accept any response you have, and use that experience to move forward. If we’re constantly judging ourselves and others, it’s hard to make positive change.”

As Lori is walking out, she can’t help but feel like a weight has been lifted off her shoulders.

So even with my requests and outbursts, it doesn’t seem like these people are judging me.

She releases a sigh of relief.
